About Voodoo Doughnuts
Voodoo Doughnuts is the world-famous donut shop that gives Disneyland a run for its money in being the ‘Happiest Place on Earth’.
It is the masterpiece of the two creators Kennith “Cat Daddy” Pogson and Tres Shannon. One with a knack for business and the other with endless connections they were bound to be a success and well, look at them now!
You see, in the early 2000’s they realised that downtown Portland did not have a doughnut shop, which soon led them to rent a small storefront situated between two nightclubs in Old Town by 2003.
They often joke about their ambition to achieve “world doughnut domination”. And they started off strong with their original offerings traditional and unconventional flavours that have only become bigger, better and weirder throughout the years.
Where is Voodoo Doughnuts
From humble beginnings in Old Town Portland, Oregon, Voodoo was at the forefront of the American Donut Revolution.
It was that cult following it built within Portland that has led them to become one of America’s most popular and recognisable donut shops. Constantly expanding to other states, cities, airports and theme parks across the country!

Old Town Portland Oregon – The Flagship
This is the flagship store that was opened back in 2003. It wasn’t until 2008 that a second location opened, and by then, it had already become a Portland staple.

Voodoo Doughnuts: the Worldwide Donut Guide Recap
I was first introduced to Voodoo Doughnuts back in 2013. I was on a student exchange in Portland, OR where almost everyone I talked to asked if I had tried their doughnuts yet.
By this point in my life I had already been gifted the nickname of donut (whether that is because I was round like one or loved them so much is still a mystery) so I knew I had to get my hands on these sweet treats.
From that day onwards, I couldn’t stop thinking about these weird and wonderful creations.
From the moment you step into these store, or simply see the long line down the streets, its clear why Portland is so proud to claim Voodoo as their own. And even more so, why it has taken the rest of America by storm.
Voodoo doughnuts saw a gap in the market early and filled it with unique yet nostalgic donutty goodness. Decades later, with a new CEO in the mix, Voodoo have always stayed true to their cheeky, quirky nature and offerings that make every step of their journey feel like only the beginning.
Voodoo Doughnuts will always hold a special place in my heart and an extra special place on the Worldwide Donut Guide. It did inspire it after all.
