Is Cora Cora Maldives the Best Resort in the Raa Atoll?

Famous for pristine waters and overwater villas, you have an overwhelming choice of luxury accommodation in the Maldives. BUT if you are on the hunt for a Unique Maldives Resort experience, you need to see how Cora Cora is redefining tropical paradise!

First opening its doors in October 2021, Cora Cora continues to grow its all-inclusive contemporary 5-star experience.

Sure, it may be their impressive overwater villas that draw you in first (especially when there are waterslides on offer!). However, be warned that the immersive dining, wellness, sustainability, cultural and unique luxury experiences will make you want to stay forever.

Coming from someone (hey, that’s me!) with extraordinarily high standards when it comes to unique accommodation. After staying everywhere from specialty onsen hotels in Tokyo to Glass Igloo Suites in Lapland.

With the great responsibility of being your unique travel expert, no stone will be left unturned or reef unsnorkelled to answer:
Is Cora Cora Maldives the best resort in the Raa Atoll… maybe even the Best All-Inclusive in the Maldives!

Why should you choose the Raa Atoll?

In the northern part of the country, Raa Atoll is one of the most underrated regions in the Maldives.

Often overlooked by its neighbouring Baa Atoll. Despite Raa being one of the largest and deepest atolls in the world.

Unlike the more developed atolls near Malé, Raa feels more untouched.
Making a name for itself with those looking to escape the crowds and discover a more authentic side of island life while still balancing the next-level eco luxury that has made the country so iconic.

It is Unique Maldives Resort offerings like Cora Cora that are a huge driving force for its rise in popularity.

Best Season to Visit the Raa Atoll

The Maldives is known for two distinct seasons:

  • December to April – Dry Season: Enjoy plenty of sunshine, calm seas, and minimal rainfall. Ideal conditions for snorkeling, diving, and soaking up the tranquil island vibes. If you’re looking to spot manta rays, January to March is especially rewarding.
  • May to November Monsoon Season: The wet season brings more rain, but it also means fewer crowds and lower prices. A good option for travellers who don’t mind occasional showers and want a quieter, more budget-friendly escape.

Many say the best time to visit is during the Maldives’ dry season (locally known as Iruvai).

Dry season also means high season. Expect more expensive hotel rates and a lot more people around. Which brings me to what I would actually recommend as the Best Season to visit the Maldives:

  • Shoulder Seasons late April – early June and late September – early November: avoid the crowds and get a better bang for your buck. There may be scattered showers, but you’ll still catch plenty of sunshine. With the added bonus of fewer tourists, better resort deals, and a more peaceful island experience. Not to mention, marine life tends to be active just before and after the monsoon seasons.

Overall, Raa Atoll enjoys year-round tropical warmth, with average temperatures ranging from 27°C to 31°C (81°F to 88°F).

Where to stay in the Raa Atoll (other than Cora Cora)

Cora Cora Maldives is located approximately 177 KM from the main international airport in the Maldives. You have 2 main options on how to get to and from. Let me explain:

✈️ Flying to Male – Velana International Airport

You will most likely fly into Velana International Airport (MLE) as it is the primary transport hub of the Maldives. Located on Hulhulé Island in the southern Malé Atoll near the capital island Malé.

You will need to clear immigration and collect your luggage before coming out into the arrival hall. From there, Cora Cora will have a representative waiting in front of the arrival gate, holding a board displaying “Cora Cora Maldives”. From there, you will be escorted to the resort transfer.

🛩️ Seaplane direct to Cora Cora Maldives

Cora Cora Maldives is a scenic 45-minute flight by Seaplane away from Velana International Airport.

  • Seaplanes operate only during daylight hours. For your arrival, please note that the transfer will be arranged for all international flights landing no later than 3.30 PM. Please do keep in mind that if there are major delays in the flight or on the ground to due unforeseen circumstances (bad weather, technical issues, system failures, long queues in the airport etc.) a transfer on the same day cannot be guaranteed.
  • For your departure day, only international flights departing after 9 AM will be catered by Seaplane transfers.
  • If you are arriving or departing outside these timings, you will need to overnight in a hotel in the Greater Male’ area.

    – Cora Cora Maldives

✈️ Flying to and from Ifuru Domestic Airport

ALternatively, there is the 30-minute transfer by Domestic Flight to Ifuru Domestic Airport. You can then take a short speedboat ride to the resort.

🛥️ Speedboat rides to Cora Cora

Approximately 20 20-minute speedboat ride from Ifuru Airport to Cora Cora Maldives. This option provides added flexibility and potentially more frequent departures

Both transfer options can be arranged through the resort upon booking.

Best time to Book you stay at Cora Cora

Ultimately, the best time to visit will come down to your personal availability and budget. If you have the flexibility, there are a few tricks and tips to help you maximise the value, time and budget of your Unique Maldives Resort stay.

Here is what to look out for and some of my best tips, and a travel expert:

  • Avoid peak dry season and major holidays
Travelling between December and April often comes with the highest rates and limited availability. Especially during holidays like Christmas, Easter and New Year.
  • Consider Shoulder Seasons
The shoulder seasons offer lower prices, fewer tourists, and still-pleasant weather. Resorts like Cora Cora often have special promotions during these months.
  • Last Minute Deals
If you’re flexible and spontaneous, last-minute deals can offer steep discounts on villas and packages. Some resorts slash prices to fill gaps in occupancy, especially during the low season.
  • Early Bird Sales
Many Maldives resorts offer early booking discounts if you plan months in advance (timings vary). Booking early can secure the best villa options and rates.
  • Grand Openings
Keep an eye out for new resort openings or post-renovation relaunches. These properties often offer exclusive introductory rates, freebies, and extras like spa credits or excursions. There’s more than you realise!
  • Package Deals and Special Occasion Offerings
Look for packages tailored to honeymoons, anniversaries, or family vacations. Resorts like Cora Cora often bundle extras like romantic dinners, spa treatments, or water sports in celebration packages.
  • Rewards Loyalty Programs
Whether it is a hotel loyalty program or a booking platform reward system, look out for discounts, upgrades, and complimentary perks.

Where to Book Cora Cora Maldives – and how to save $$$

Speaking of booking platforms, there are several sites you can book your stay at Cora Cora Maldives. These are my most tried and tested:

The best part about Cora Cora on multiple platforms is the increased ability to score an even better deal.

For example, I am usually a booking.com girl with level 3 Genius benefits that give me big deals and add-ons.

HOWEVER, we are often able to get a bonus discount with my code. And I am shocked at how many times the prices are WAAAY cheaper.

Unique Highlights of Cora Cora Maldives

The Cora Cora Premium All-Inclusive Gourmet Meal Plan®

I have been lucky enough to experience a couple of varied all-inclusive stays before, but nothing comes close to the Premium All-Inclusive Gourmet Meal Plan® at Cora Cora.

This thoughtfully curated plan includes a range of à la carte dining across the resort’s 5 restaurants. Plus premium beverages (yes, even fine wines and cocktails!), in-villa mini bar refills, and snacks available all day, all without the typical upcharges or limitations.

What sets it apart is the emphasis on quality and variety. From freshly caught seafood (better sushi than I have had in Japan!) and authentic Maldivian dishes to Italian comfort food and health-conscious bites, there is something for everyone, every day.

Full details on the Cora Cora Website.

Their exclusive Dutch Onion® Museum and Outdoor Heritage Site

Connect with history, culture, and the soul of the Maldives. At the heart of this is the resort’s exclusive Dutch Onion® Museum and Outdoor Heritage Site; the first of its kind in the Maldives.

Featuring a collection of over 400 local artifacts, some dating back centuries, including ancient tools, coins, ceramics, and everyday items that offer a glimpse into the island’s rich seafaring and trading history.

It’s a rare opportunity to connect and experience authentic Maldivian heritage, something few resorts offer. For guests who crave more than just sun and sand, the Dutch Onion® Museum is a standout feature that makes Cora Cora truly unique Maldives resort experience.

DJ MasterClasses, Beach Cinema Nights and its endless Unique Daily activities

Cora Cora’s motto is “It’s freedom time”. From the moment we landed, we were greeted with a welcome drink and special “Freedom” temporary tattoo to immediately immerse us in the message and story of this Unique Maldives resort.

What sets Cora Cora apart is its calendar of daily experiences designed to drive that sense of freedom. From hands-on DJ masterclasses to cozy beach cinema nights under the stars, there’s always something happening.

Guests are invited into a rotating lineup of yoga sessions, creative workshops, cultural talks, cooking classes, and more, meaning no two days feel the same.

Eye-opening day trips to Tsunami Ghost Island

In 2004, the Maldives was hit by a major Tsunami that claimed 82 lives, left 26 missing, and displaced over 15,000 people. Including this entire island.

It is not the typical day tour you imagine when coming to the Maldives.
Yet, it is arguably the most important and what became the most memorable day of my trip.

Walking through the remnants of a once-thriving village, you witness the quiet resilience of nature reclaiming the land. It’s a moving reminder of both the fragility of island life and the strength of the Maldivian people. Guided by locals, the experience is steeped in history, creating a unique opportunity for reflection and cultural connection.

Celebrating Local Culture, Celebrations and Connection on the surrounding Islands

After our tour of Tsunami Island, we were taken to a nearby local island – Rasgetheemu Island. The day trip immerses you in the rhythm of authentic island life.

This guided excursion invites you to explore traditional Maldivian villages, meet local artisans, visit family-run cafés, and witness the warmth and hospitality of the local community. Depending on the season, you might even catch cultural festivals, Bodu Beru drumming performances, or local markets buzzing with colour and craft.

This is a must-visit day trip IMO that adds genuine heart to your luxury island escape. And makes Cora Cora the ultimate Unique Maldives Resort.

If reading it isn’t enough, see it come to life on my TIKTOK!

World-Class Snorkelling on the House Reef – keep an eye out for manta rays, sharks and more!

Snorkelling at Cora Cora Maldives is nothing short of spectacular, with something new to see every day. Both underwater and even the chance to spot resident stingrays and sharks drifting past your villa!

The house reef is home to thriving coral gardens, gentle reef sharks, tropical fish, and even the occasional majestic manta ray if you’re lucky.
(Unfortunately, I was not and got caught in a tropical storm instead.)

With complimentary gear and expert guides available, snorkelling here is easy.

But it’s not just Cora Cora, the entire Raa Atoll is known for its pristine, less-crowded reefs, making it a top choice for underwater lovers seeking a more untouched experience. Many nearby sites are only a short boat ride away and offer a chance to encounter sea turtles, eagle rays, and seasonal manta ray cleaning stations.

Cora Cora Maldives

The Downside of Staying at Cora Cora Maldives

  1. It’s Expensive – Honestly, in terms of luxury all-inclusive offerings in the Maldives, Cora Cora is one of the best value deals you can find. However, I understand it can still be a scary price tag to see. I recommend comparing your options and maybe mixing in a few local island stays within your trip to balance cost if on a tighter budget.
  2. Beware of Mosquitos – A hard one to avoid in the Maldives, yet constantly comes up in reviews. As long as you prepare with bug spray, this really isn’t an issue IMO.
  3. The Island is too small for some – Personally I loved how easily walkable this entire island is, only taking about 20 minutes to do a full loop walking (or zip around by bike). It may be small but it is packed with things to do, see and eat al day long.
  4. Common Areas can get loud and busy – I would probably use the term lively in a positive light instead of ‘loud and busy’, although I guess that can vary depending on who is staying.
  5. Is it TOO family-friendly? – While still a recommended romantic honeymoon destination, Cora Cora is also a key family holiday spot. If you are looking for a true adults-only escape, you will want to reconsider.
  6. No in-room dining – When the best sushi of my life was only a quick golf buggy or walk away, I really didn’t mind that there was no in-room dining. I found it exciting to exploring the different restaurants and offerings across the island.

Is Cora Cora Maldives good for solo travellers?

While I did stay in an overwater villa by myself, I was technically travelling with a Visit Maldives media group so I can not speak entirely on this.

Regardless, I will say that in my moments of solitude, I never felt lonely or made to feel out of place in the resort. The staff took extra care of my personal needs and made me feel included and active in group settings.

Even families and couples would often split off to do their own thing, so it never felt wrong to be alone.

Cora Cora is a fantastic option for solo travellers looking for a unique Maldives resort experience. However, I would say it comes down to the type of solo traveller you are.

What is it really like to stay in a Unique Maldives Resort? My brutally honest Cora Cora Review.

With that in mind, my overall planning and stay slightly vary from the typical. BUT do not let that take away from the raw, real and reliable insights I was able to uncover for you!

If anything, it gave me even more motivation to make the most of it and try everything. Even the things that scared me or I never would have thought to book myself.

Funnily enough, it was those like the Tsunami and Local Island tour or snorkelling with sharks that made my entire trip. Solidifying Cora Cora Maldives as the best resort in the Raa Atoll.

I somehow can’t shut up about my stay, at the same time, I am speechless anytime I try to explain what it is really like. And as much as I could ramble on (and already have, I guess haha) about specifics, it is one of those things I highly recommend you treat yourself to in order to understand.

Especially since Cora Cora personalises each individual persons experience with tailored activities and flexible offerings.

I am even dreaming of returning one day, knowing it would be a completely different experience again, in the best way possible. No day or stay is the same with a unique Maldives resort stay at Cora Cora Maldives.

So what are you waiting and what am I waiting for!? Make those dreams come true, you deserve it:
